I have been a Maintenance Engineer for 20 years and have worked with many CMMS systems, finding that
some had merits. However, many didn’t offer me what I needed and their lack of flexibility frustrated me.
When I became a Maintenance Manager I wanted a system that would suit the needs of Maintenance Engineers, Managers and other production personnel. I tested several systems, but didn’t find anything that would give me the scope I desired, nor the information I needed as a Manager.
This gave me 3 options:
OPTION 1: Accept the ‘best fit’ system on the market.
OPTION 2: Have a bespoke system written for my needs at a premium cost.
OPTION 3: Write a CMMS system myself using all my knowledge and experience.
I chose the last option as I wanted a system that met my needs – I know it can meet yours.

Most CMMS systems rely on either one person on a Help Desk who is solely
responsible for inputting the work orders or the work orders are
created by the maintenance personnel who have performed the
work. MSTS is so simple to use that anyone from
Operators up to Managers can create the work orders
which tends to generate a more detailed request.
